A Pennsylvania man is facing serious charges after police discovered a disturbing collection of human remains, including those of children, stolen from multiple cemeteries. Jonathan Gerlach, 34, was apprehended on Tuesday at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and now faces a long list of accusations.
Gerlach is charged with numerous counts, including burglary, criminal trespass, abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen property, and desecration of public monuments. These charges stem from the discovery of over 100 skeletons and partial remains taken from cemeteries in Delaware County, Philadelphia, and potentially Luzerne County.
The investigation began after a series of burglaries at Mount Moriah Cemetery dating back to November 2025. Police surveillance eventually led them to Gerlach’s vehicle at the cemetery. A search of his car revealed a burlap bag containing the remains of two children, skulls, and other bones. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a horrifying collection of human remains.
District Attorney Tanner Rouse described the scene as something out of a horror movie, stating that investigators were confronted with an unprecedented situation. The remains were found in various states, with some hanging, some pieced together, and others simply displayed as skulls on a shelf.
