“Seinfeld’s” George Costanza Could Have Been Played by Chris Rock or Rosie O’Donnell
The hit TV show “Seinfeld” almost had a very different George Costanza. Jason Alexander, who played George, talked about it on his podcast, “Really? no, Really?” with Jennifer Keishin Armstrong, who wrote a book about “Seinfeld.”
Alexander said that actors like Chris Rock, Danny DeVito, Paul Schaefer, and even Rosie O’Donnell were considered for the role. Armstrong also mentioned that Steve Buscemi was in the running.
“Seinfeld,” co-created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, was famous for being a “show about nothing,” finding humor in everyday life. David even wanted to play George himself, according to Alexander.
The show was a big success, running for nine seasons and winning 10 Emmy Awards. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who played Elaine, said she felt sad when the show ended because the cast was so close. She has had a great career since “Seinfeld,” but is still known for her role as Elaine.
Louis-Dreyfus mentioned that she’s happy the show is still popular because it’s funny and has stood the test of time.
