Peace Talks Continue in Egypt, Focus on Long-Term Stability
Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt – Discussions aimed at securing a lasting peace between Israel and Hamas entered their third day at a resort in Egypt. High-level officials from the United States, Israel, and other nations are joining the talks, signaling a serious effort to address the core issues preventing a resolution to the conflict.
Hamas has stated they are seeking assurances that military actions will not resume after hostages are released.
The discussions are centered around a plan to end the conflict. Key points of the plan include disarming Hamas, withdrawing troops, and establishing an international body to oversee Gaza after Hamas gives up power.
Key figures like Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani are present, along with U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Ron Dermer, a top advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is also participating.
The proposed plan involves an immediate stop to fighting and the release of remaining hostages. It also calls for Israeli troops to leave Gaza after Hamas is disarmed, followed by an international security force moving in. The territory would then be placed under international control.
President el-Sissi of Egypt expressed optimism about the progress of the talks. Prime Minister Netanyahu has agreed to the Trump plan.
Hamas has asked for a permanent end to fighting and a full Israeli withdrawal, but hasn’t said anything about disarming.
People in Gaza are hoping for a deal. A woman named Sara Rihan said she was praying for the war to end so they can return home.
