Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard just dropped a bombshell, and it’s about time. This isn’t just about the past; it’s about holding those accountable who tried to subvert the will of the American people.
- Criminal referrals submitted to the Justice Department.
- Investigation targets key figures involved in the 2019 impeachment.
- Documents reveal potential abuse of power by intelligence officials.
Deep State Under Scrutiny
Gabbard isn’t holding back, and frankly, she shouldn’t. She’s accusing “deep state actors” of cooking up a false narrative that led to President Trump’s first impeachment. The Director of National Intelligence’s office says that Michael Atkinson, the Intelligence Community Inspector General, might have improperly handled the whistleblower investigation into Trump’s call with Ukraine President Zelensky.
The ODNI claims Atkinson pushed the complaint to the Justice Department based only on secondhand information. This is a serious accusation of weaponizing the whistleblower process. They allege Atkinson ignored Justice Department guidance and relied on flimsy evidence to get the complaint to Congress, the FBI, and, predictably, the media.
The Whistleblower’s Baggage
Let’s be clear: the whistleblower had a clear bias. He was a registered Democrat, worked closely with then-Vice President Joe Biden, and even traveled to Ukraine with him. The fact that inquiries into this clear bias were blocked during the 2020 impeachment trial is outrageous.
This stinks of a coordinated effort to smear a sitting president. Gabbard is right to call it out. She is calling out the “deep state playbook” for weaponizing the Intelligence Community.
What Happens Now?
The Justice Department will now decide if a criminal investigation is warranted. A criminal referral is essentially a formal request for the DOJ to look into possible criminal behavior. It’s not a guarantee of charges, but it’s a significant step.
But even if the DOJ decides not to prosecute, the damage is done. The American people have seen the lengths to which these people will go to undermine a conservative president. The release of these documents is a victory for transparency.
Gabbard‘s actions should serve as a warning to anyone in Washington who thinks they can get away with abusing their power. They’re not untouchable.
Will the Justice Department actually hold these people accountable, or will this be another whitewash?
