Ford is recalling approximately 240,000 of its Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs due to a potential safety issue involving the seat belt anchors. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has highlighted that improperly secured seat belts might not hold occupants in place during a crash, which could unfortunately lead to an increased risk of injury.
So far, Ford has stated that there have been no reported incidents of accidents or injuries linked to these faulty seat belt assemblies. The models affected by this recall are from the 2020 and 2021 production years, with about 216,000 Explorers and 24,000 Aviators included in the recall.
Owners of these vehicles will be contacted by Ford around late March. They will be advised to take their SUVs to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for an inspection. If any seat belt anchor bolts are found to be loose, they will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner.
