A federal judge in Delaware dismissed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News from Raymond Epps, a former supporter of Donald Trump. Epps claimed he faced death threats after the network aired false allegations connecting him to the January 6, 2021, events at the Capitol.
The judge, Jennifer L. Hall, ruled in favor of Fox News without any explanation. Epps, a former Marine, alleged that he was wrongly identified by Fox as a government agent who instigated trouble at the Capitol, pushing blame onto Trump supporters.
In a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Epps revealed that he and his wife had to sell their ranch in Arizona and relocate due to the harassment stemming from these false claims. He specifically pointed out Tucker Carlson, Fox’s former top host, as a leading figure in promoting this conspiracy theory before Carlson’s departure from the network in April 2023.
Following the dismissal of this case, Fox News referred to two other defamation lawsuits against them that were also thrown out. These involved Nina Jankowicz, a former disinformation expert under the Biden administration, and Tony Bobulinski, a former business associate of Hunter Biden.
Fox News expressed satisfaction with the recent court decisions, emphasizing the importance of press freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.
