In the summer of 1998, Irene Silverman, an 82-year-old widow and philanthropist, mysteriously disappeared from her luxurious townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Her absence coincided with the sudden departure of a young man and an older woman who had recently rented one of her apartments for a hefty price of up to $10,000 a month.
However, this was not a mere coincidence. It was discovered that these renters, Kenny Kimes and his mother Sante, were involved in a string of crimes across the country and were wanted for various offenses, including the tragic murder of a businessman, David Kazdin. Kazdin’s body had been found in a dumpster near Los Angeles International Airport earlier that year.
The chilling tale of the Kimes family’s crime spree, ending with Irene Silverman’s murder and the subsequent manhunt that brought them to justice, will be explored in a new episode of Dateline titled “The Devil Wore White.” This episode will air on Friday, January 31, at 9 p.m. CT.
In the episode, viewers will hear from Kenny Kimes, who is currently serving time in a San Diego prison for Kazdin’s murder. During a recent interview, he expressed deep regret for his past actions, saying, "I absolutely regret my past," and emphasized his desire to seek redemption for his mistakes.
Kenny also addressed the families of his victims, stating, “100 percent. I am sorry. I was an idiot and my ignorance I am ashamed of.” The episode will feature additional interviews, including thoughts from Kenny’s half-brother Kent Walker and Ken Holmgren, the son of one of Sante Kimes’ alleged victims.
