New charges have been filed against a former Colorado funeral director who is already dealing with serious accusations regarding improper handling of a body. Miles Harford, who previously owned Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, was arrested in February 2024 on charges related to abuse of a corpse and theft. Reports indicate he was released on bond shortly thereafter.
Recently, he has been hit with two additional felony charges. Allegedly, Harford hacked into a former employer’s business account to pay a Verizon bill, with these actions reportedly taking place between July 6 and July 9, 2024.
While the earlier charges were based in Denver, officials from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the new allegations stem from Littleton.
In previous updates, authorities revealed troubling details about the case, including the discovery of human remains after Harford was evicted from his residence in southwest Denver. In a press conference, Denver Police Commander Matt Clark disclosed that they found the remains of a 63-year-old woman, who passed away in August 2022, inside a hearse. It appears her body had been concealed in the vehicle shortly after her death, leading to confusion and grief for her family, who believed they had received her complete remains from the funeral home.
Clark also mentioned that additional remains were discovered stored in plastic bags in a crawlspace in Harford’s home. Some of these could belong to individuals who died between 2012 and 2021, and investigators are working to identify these remains.
The police have noted that Harford may have faced financial difficulties, which complicated his ability to provide proper services. It is suggested that he occasionally gave families the remains of others instead of their loved ones, allowing him to hold services and appear compliant.
Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services has been out of operation since September 2022 as this case continues to unfold.
