Human remains, believed to be those of Travis Decker, were found in a wooded area in Washington state. This discovery comes after a drone spotted a bright green shirt that matched one Decker had been seen wearing.
Sheriff Mike Morrison said the drone found something unusual. The bright shirt caught their eye. It was hidden and blended into the ground.
Because the area was very rough, a helicopter had to lower officers to the spot. There, they found remains that were in bad shape.
Decker was wanted in connection to the deaths of his three daughters, Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia. Their bodies were found in a campground in June. Decker had taken them for a visit but didn’t bring them back to their mother.
At the site where the remains were found, officers also found shorts and a bracelet. These items looked like clothes and jewelry Decker had worn before.
Sheriff Morrison said the search team was about to wrap up when they made the discovery. He estimates it would take about three hours to hike from the campground to where the remains were found. It’s a very steep, rocky, and wild area.
The search for Decker lasted for months and spread across the country. Authorities weren’t sure if he was alive. They even thought he might have tried to go to Canada.
The remains found are waiting for DNA tests to confirm they belong to Decker. Sheriff Morrison said if it is him, he never made it to Canada. The search for any other remains continues.
