An Alabama daycare owner is facing serious charges after a baby died in her care back in 2022.
Angelene Chamblee is accused of manslaughter and other crimes related to the death of a 4-month-old baby, Autumn Wells. Police say the baby was left on her stomach, on a Boppy pillow, for over two hours.
Chamblee has been charged with multiple crimes, including manslaughter and running a daycare without a license. She was arrested but has been released after paying a $40,000 bond.
Little Autumn Wells was found not breathing at the daycare and later died at a hospital.
After Autumn’s death, state officials investigated the daycare and found several problems. The daycare was forced to close down a week later.
Four other daycare workers were also charged in connection with Autumn’s death. One of them, Payton Gann, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison. Two other workers pleaded guilty to lesser charges related to covering up what happened.
Autumn’s mother, Taylor Wells, said her daughter was everything to her. She urged other parents to be very careful when choosing a daycare. She wants parents to know who is caring for their children and to speak up if they see something wrong. “Don’t worry about being embarrassed. Don’t worry about being wrong,” she said.
