An assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, Darrell Armstrong, has faced serious allegations of assaulting his girlfriend with a gun. According to reports, the incident occurred early Saturday morning at around 3:45 a.m. in Dallas, prompting police to respond to a call from the scene.
Armstrong, 56 years old, was arrested after it was claimed that he struck a woman with a firearm and threatened to shoot her. Reports indicate that the victim, identified as his girlfriend, sought help after the altercation, which began following an argument about a text message from another woman. She reportedly left the apartment to contact her family and the authorities after being hit.
Dallas Fire Rescue personnel provided assistance to the victim at the scene of the incident.
In response to the situation, a spokesperson for the Dallas Mavericks released a statement acknowledging the incident and noted that an employee was involved. The organization stated, “We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings.” They added that the legal authorities are reviewing the case and that the team will avoid further comments while the legal process is ongoing.
Armstrong has been an assistant coach with the Mavericks since the 2008-09 season, following a 14-year career as an NBA player. He was later released on bond after his arrest.
Larry Taylor, a representative for Armstrong, mentioned that they are starting an independent investigation into the events surrounding the incident and will provide updates in the coming days.
