A man from New York has been arrested after allegedly confessing to the murder of his 14-year-old daughter, Hira Anwar. Reports indicate that he disapproved of her TikTok videos. The tragic incident occurred in Quetta, Pakistan, near the Afghan border.
According to police, Hira’s father, Anwar-ul-Haq, admitted to killing her because he found her social media content “objectionable.” The police investigator, Zohaib Mohsin, stated that the family had issues with Hira’s clothing, lifestyle, and her social activities.
Hira had reportedly been lured to Pakistan under the pretense of visiting relatives. Haq had moved his family back to his native country after living in New York for 25 years, where Hira was born and raised.
While in the U.S., Hira began creating TikTok videos that her father found inappropriate, and he claimed she continued to post similar content after their relocation.
Haq now faces murder charges, and under Pakistan’s laws regarding “honor killings,” he may face life imprisonment if found guilty. However, details about his legal representation are unclear, and it remains uncertain if he will be returned to the U.S. or if investigations are underway by the State Department.
