Cochran-Siegle Secures Silver for Team USA in Olympic Super-G
BORMIO, Italy – American Olympic skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle skied his way to a silver medal in the men’s super-G event at the Winter Olympics on Wednesday.
Cochran-Siegle achieved a time of 1:25.45, placing him just 0.13 seconds behind Franjo von Allmen of Switzerland, who earned his third gold medal at the Milan Cortina Games. Marco Odermatt, also from Switzerland, took home the bronze medal.
This marks Cochran-Siegle’s second Olympic medal. He previously won a silver medal in the same event at the Beijing Olympics in 2022. At the Pyeongchang Games in 2018, his first Olympic appearance, he finished 14th in the super-G. Earlier in the current Olympics, he finished 18th in the downhill event.
Other Americans participating in the super-G included Sam Morse, Kyle Negomir, and River Radamus. Morse finished 23rd with a time of 1:27.12, while Negomir came in 26th at 1:28.62. Radamus, unfortunately, did not finish the race after a fall.
Cochran-Siegle, who hails from Vermont, began his World Cup career at the age of 19. Throughout his career, he has not placed higher than seventh in the super-G event. With his events completed, he will now support his teammates for the remainder of the Games.
Negomir is scheduled to compete in the giant slalom and team combined events later in the Olympics. Ryder Sarchett will also participate in the giant slalom. Negomir and Radamus previously competed together in the team combined event, finishing in 18th place.
The super-G event combines elements of both downhill and giant slalom, requiring skiers to navigate a course with wide, sweeping turns at high speeds. The race demands both technical skill and courage, as athletes must maintain control while pushing their limits.
The Winter Olympics continue, showcasing athletes from around the world in a variety of snow and ice sports.
