Air Force Academy Suspends Head Basketball Coach
Joe Scott, the head coach of the Air Force Academy’s men’s basketball team, has been suspended from his position. The announcement came from the Academy on Saturday, stating that the suspension is indefinite and pending an investigation into the way cadet-athletes are being treated within the program.
During this period, assistant coach Joe Jordan will step in as the interim head coach. The Air Force Academy has not released further details regarding the nature of the investigation or the specific reasons behind Scott’s suspension, citing the ongoing inquiry.
Joe Scott is currently in his second period as the head coach at Air Force. His initial tenure spanned from 2000 to 2004, and he returned to the position in 2020. Over his ten seasons as head coach, Scott has accumulated a record of 97 wins and 183 losses. The Air Force Falcons are currently struggling this season with a record of 3 wins and 14 losses.
Throughout his time as head coach, Scott had only one winning season, which occurred in 2003-2004. During that season, the team achieved a 22-7 record, securing the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Before returning to Air Force, Scott had held coaching positions at other universities. Following his first stint with Air Force, he became the head coach at Princeton University, where he coached for three seasons, achieving a 38-45 record.
After Princeton, Scott took on the head coaching role at the University of Denver from 2007 to 2016. Over nine seasons, he achieved a 146-132 record, leading the team to one postseason appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). However, he was ultimately let go before the end of his contract.
Before his return to Air Force, Scott also served as an assistant coach at Holy Cross for two seasons and at the University of Georgia for another two seasons. His overall record as a head coach stands at 281-360.
Joe Jordan is set to start his role as interim head coach on Saturday, when the Air Force Falcons are scheduled to play against the Nevada Wolf Pack at home.
