An 11-year-old boy in Pennsylvania is accused of shooting and killing his father because his dad took away his Nintendo Switch game console.
The incident happened in Duncannon Borough, Perry County. According to reports, the boy’s father, 42-year-old Douglas Dietz, took away the game system on Tuesday.
The boy is now charged with criminal homicide and is being held in custody without bail. His first court hearing is scheduled for January 22.
The boy’s mother, Jillian Dietz, told police she was awakened by a loud gunshot and smelled gunpowder. She found her husband bleeding heavily. Reports say the boy then came into the room and said, “Daddy’s dead.” Authorities claim he also told his mother, “I killed Daddy.” The boy was adopted by his parents in 2018.
Investigators say the boy admitted to being angry with his father for taking the Nintendo Switch. He reportedly found the key to his father’s safe, where he thought he would find the game console. Instead, he found a revolver, loaded it with bullets, and shot his father while he was in bed.
The boy later told authorities, “I killed my dad. I hate myself.” When questioned, police noted that the boy had a bruise above his left eye and a cut on his lower lip.
