Billy Ray Cyrus has spoken out following a heartfelt letter from his son, Trace Cyrus, which raised concerns about his well-being after a performance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
On January 26, Billy Ray posted a throwback clip of his 2009 music video, “Somebody Said a Prayer,” on his YouTube channel. The video featured Trace, who had expressed deep worries about his father’s current state. In his video caption, Billy Ray shared his gratitude for the rain in California and prayed for healing within his family, affirming that the past does not dictate the future.
Billy Ray, who adopted Trace and his sister Brandi after marrying their mother Tish in 1992, has had a tumultuous family life, including the births of Miley, Braison, and Noah Cyrus before their divorce in 2022. He is also the father of Christopher from a previous relationship.
In a poignant message on January 23, Trace reached out to his dad via Instagram, urging him to reconnect with his children. He reminisced about the joyful day Billy Ray adopted him but expressed concern about the changes he has seen in his father. Trace noted that he and his sisters have been genuinely worried about him, feeling pushed away over the years.
Trace’s worries extended to his father’s health, stating, “You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it.” He reflected on the memories of a better time with his father and hopes for his return to that state.
During the inauguration on January 20, Billy Ray performed classics such as “Old Town Road” and “Achy Breaky Heart,” though the performance faced issues. Viewers expressed mixed feelings, describing segments of the show as difficult to watch. Nevertheless, Billy Ray later stood firm, asserting his commitment to the performance regardless of technical difficulties, celebrating the occasion as an honor.
In the aftermath of Trace’s letter, he reported feeling disheartened after his father seemingly threatened legal action over his plea for help. He very candidly addressed how unacceptable it is to be treated this way for simply expressing concern.
While Trace remains hopeful, believing “the man we all once knew is still in there somewhere,” he urged followers to send their support to his father. The ongoing family situation appears complex, with each member feeling the impact of the circumstances unfolding.
Braison Cyrus, another brother, has commented on the family drama, insisting he holds no resentment towards anyone and appreciates the moments shared with his father while working on new music together.
At the heart of this ongoing family saga is a deep concern for welfare and healing, as the Cyrus family navigates personal challenges while maintaining a public presence.
