Maxwell Hairston Faces Sexual Assault Allegations
In recent news, Maxwell Hairston, the Buffalo Bills’ first-round draft pick, has been accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed in federal court. The claims stem from an incident that reportedly occurred in 2021 while Hairston was a student at the University of Kentucky.
The lawsuit alleges that Hairston entered a woman’s dorm room without permission and assaulted her, even after she clearly stated that she did not want to engage in sexual activity. The complaint details that Hairston allegedly forced the victim’s clothing off during the incident.
The Bills organization is aware of the allegations. General Manager Brandon Beane commented during the draft that the team had thoroughly investigated the claims against Hairston. He referred to him as an “impeccable kid” and expressed regret that such accusations can follow someone. Beane indicated that the information they had did not raise significant concerns.
In the hours following the alleged assault, the victim reported the incident to the police and underwent a sexual assault examination. However, the lawsuit does not disclose the results of that examination.
As a result of the trauma from the event, the victim switched schools in 2021, stating that the emotional burden made it impossible for her to continue her education in the same setting where the incident took place.
Hairston was chosen as the 30th pick in April’s NFL Draft after playing three seasons at Kentucky. The Buffalo Bills will begin training camp soon, but the unfolding legal situation may cast a shadow over his debut.
