Roseanne Barr Speaks Out Against Hollywood’s Double Standards
Comedian Roseanne Barr recently voiced her concerns about what she sees as hypocrisy within the television industry, especially regarding the treatment of those who express views outside the mainstream. Her comments come after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel returned to his show following a brief suspension.
Barr argues that there appears to be a double standard in how different people are treated when they make mistakes. She referenced her own experience in 2018, when her show “Roseanne” was abruptly canceled after a controversial tweet. Barr believes she faced severe consequences with lasting effects, while others in the industry, like Kimmel, seem to recover more quickly from their missteps.
Kimmel faced criticism and a short suspension after making comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Barr pointed out that Kimmel has also faced past scrutiny for wearing blackface in comedy sketches. She suggests that if Kimmel had stood up for her during her own controversy, perhaps things would have turned out differently.
Barr expressed skepticism about Kimmel’s return, suggesting his fans might see it as a victory against conservatives.
Kimmel addressed the controversy upon his return, saying he never intended to mock the assassination of Kirk. He acknowledged his remarks were poorly timed and unclear. Several broadcasting companies chose not to air Kimmel’s show due to the comments.
