Trump to Reinstate President’s Council on Sports and Fitness
President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order this Thursday to bring back the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, a move that aims to promote healthier lifestyles among America’s youth. This initiative reflects a commitment to fostering strong and active generations for the future.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump believes that every young American should have access to opportunities that encourage a healthy and vibrant lifestyle. By emphasizing physicality and well-being, the administration hopes to enhance the culture of fitness and excellence in the U.S.
A range of notable sports figures are expected to attend the signing ceremony, including golf champion Bryson DeChambeau, NFL players, and other sporting legends. DeChambeau will take on a leadership role within the newly reinstated council.
This step is part of Trump’s plan to tackle what he sees as a serious decline in public health and fitness. The executive order directs the council to create school-based programs focused on rewarding excellence in physical education. A new Presidential Fitness Award will also be established to recognize young people’s achievement in fitness.
The President’s Council on Youth Fitness was originally created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, with the goal of encouraging physical fitness among young Americans. The Presidential Physical Fitness Award followed in 1966 under President Lyndon B. Johnson. However, it was discontinued during President Barack Obama’s administration, which introduced the Presidential Youth Fitness Program instead.
Trump’s renewed focus on sports and fitness comes as he begins his campaign for a second term, highlighting his strong presence in the sports community during recent public events, including college football and NFL games, as well as UFC matches.
This initiative not only positions sports as a crucial aspect of American culture but also reinforces the values of hard work and determination that sports embody. Through partnerships with professional athletes and organizations, the administration hopes to ignite a passion for fitness in schools and communities across the nation.
