A woman from Chicago has been charged with first-degree murder following the tragic drowning of a 1-year-old boy in Lake Michigan on Friday evening.
Authorities claim that the 31-year-old woman, identified as Surah Amon, was seen in the water shortly before the incident. Witnesses contacted the police, leading to her arrest at the scene. When officers arrived, they found Amon still in the water and quickly determined that she had drowned the child. The boy was retrieved from the lake by the Chicago Fire Department’s Marine Unit but was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The police have not disclosed any information regarding Amon’s connection to the child. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, where she will face charges of first-degree murder and another charge related to the likelihood of death.
