Tragic Incident Leads to Arrest in Daycare Death
A tragic event unfolded in North Carolina, where a woman has been charged in connection with the death of a 16-month-old girl at a daycare.
On Monday, May 19, shortly before 3 p.m., the Lenoir Police Department received a call to Creative Beginnings daycare regarding an infant who was in cardiac arrest. First responders rushed to the scene and found the child unresponsive. Despite their efforts, the girl was later pronounced dead at Caldwell UNC Healthcare.
Two days after this heartbreaking incident, authorities arrested 29-year-old Alexandra Coffey, who worked at the daycare. She has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for her alleged role in the child’s death.
Following her arrest, Coffey was released after posting a $500,000 bond.
The infant’s mother shared that the day of the incident was her daughter’s first day at the daycare. She received a troubling call from the facility informing her that her daughter did not wake up from nap time.
In response to the tragic event, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has suspended the daycare’s license and ordered its closure.
A probable cause hearing for Coffey is set for next week.
