An Oklahoma City man who uses a wheelchair experienced a terrible situation when his home was broken into twice. Alan Prudhome, who is paraplegic, had both of his wheelchairs and important medical supplies stolen.
The break-ins happened on September 15th and September 23rd. The police report says that the thieves took both a manual and electric wheelchair, about $500 in cash, phones, and food. It was also reported that the thieves took the hand controls he uses for driving and some of his medications.
Prudhome said that during the first break-in, he woke up to find a man and a woman in his apartment. He felt helpless because he couldn’t defend himself. After the second break-in, he said he didn’t feel safe in his own home anymore. He was also worried about how he would afford to replace everything since he is on disability and already struggles to make ends meet.
The police arrested Johnny Johnson III in connection with the crime. It’s not clear if anyone else was involved.
After the news spread, people in the community wanted to help. They gave Prudhome a new wheelchair and medical supplies. Prudhome is grateful for the support and said the money donated will help him replace what was stolen and move to a new place since he doesn’t want to stay in his current apartment after the break-ins. He mentioned it’s been a very difficult time for him, and any help is appreciated.
