“Grey’s Anatomy” Actor Steven W. Bailey Shares Health News
Steven W. Bailey, best known for his role as Joe the bartender on “Grey’s Anatomy,” has revealed he’s been dealing with a rare health condition. The 54-year-old actor shared that he was diagnosed with congenital myasthenic syndrome (CMS) over five years ago.
In a message posted online, Bailey explained that he had been keeping his condition private. CMS is a genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness, which can get worse with activity. It can affect muscles used for speaking, swallowing, breathing, and moving.
Bailey mentioned he chose to keep his diagnosis quiet because he was unsure how it would affect his career. He said that his muscles tire more quickly than they should, making it harder to do things like walk long distances.
He is now using a wheelchair more often to get around. While there’s no cure for CMS, Bailey is hopeful about the future. As a sign of strength, he plans to take on more roles that involve using a wheelchair, aiming to show more diverse characters on screen. He added, “Same guy. Same actor. Same artist. Now with wheels.”
