After the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk in Orem, Utah, police quickly started looking for the person responsible. What they didn’t know was that the person they were looking for was close by.
Tyler Robinson, who is suspected of shooting Kirk, ran from the Utah State University campus after the shooting. But, according to court papers, he came back to get his gun.
The gun was hidden in some bushes not far from where Kirk was shot. Robinson came back even though the police were still investigating.
This information came out in text messages between Robinson and his partner. In the messages, Robinson seemed to admit to the shooting.
Robinson had apparently told his partner about his plan to shoot Kirk in a note he left before going to Orem.
His partner didn’t believe him at first when Robinson texted about the shooting.
Robinson then confessed to the shooting and said he was still in Orem.
He texted that he needed to get his gun back but was having trouble because of the police presence. The gun, which was a family heirloom, was hidden where he had changed clothes.
Robinson worried about leaving fingerprints and not being able to explain to his father how he lost the gun.
The police did find the gun and a towel, and Robinson’s DNA was on both.
Robinson’s father even asked him to send a photo of the gun to prove he still had it, because he suspected his son was involved and knew the police had found the weapon.
Robinson is now in jail without bail and has been charged with several crimes, including murder.
Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty in this case.
