In York County, Pennsylvania, a sad event happened on Wednesday, September 17. Shots were fired while officers were working on an investigation in North Codorus Township.
Emergency services in York County got a call about a “police event” in the area around 2:10 p.m. Many police cars and ambulances went to help.
Colonel Christopher L. Paris from the Pennsylvania State Police said that they couldn’t share all the details yet because the investigation was still going on.
He did say that the community was safe and there was no danger. He confirmed that police officers had been shot, but the person who did the shooting was dead.
Five officers were shot. Sadly, three of them died. The other two were taken to the hospital and are in very serious, but stable, condition.
Colonel Paris didn’t say which police departments the officers belonged to.
The police were at the scene because they were following up on an investigation that started the day before. Colonel Paris mentioned that the investigation was related to a problem at a home. He also said that the police shot the person responsible.
The York County Office of Emergency Management said that county leaders are watching the situation carefully and praying for everyone involved. They said that official updates would come from the law enforcement agencies in charge.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he knew about the situation and was going to York County.
Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis asked people to pray for the officers and others affected by the shooting. He also advised everyone to listen to the police and stay away from the area.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday also said he was aware of the situation and was heading to York County. He urged people to follow the instructions of the local police.
