A former police officer in California is in serious trouble, facing 15 felony charges related to workers’ compensation fraud. Nicole Brown, who used to work with the Westminster Police Department, is accused of taking over $600,000 while on disability after claiming she was injured on the job in 2022.
Brown reportedly suffered a head injury while trying to arrest a suspect. After her injury, she said she felt dizzy and had headaches, leading to her being placed on Total Temporary Disability. While receiving benefits, she was seen participating in numerous activities, including attending the Stagecoach Music Festival, where she was spotted drinking and socializing, despite her claims of severe symptoms.
According to the district attorney’s office, Brown’s actions have cost the people of Westminster a significant amount of money during her time off work. Instead of resting and recovering, she allegedly engaged in various activities such as visiting Disneyland, skiing, running in 5K races, and even golfing.
In connection with this case, Brown’s stepfather, Peter Schuman, is also facing charges for allegedly assisting her in committing fraud. He stands accused of helping her during discussions about her work ability, which took place shortly after the festival event.
If found guilty, Brown could face up to 22 years in prison. She has been charged with multiple counts related to making false statements and fraudulent insurance claims. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 9.
Before her leave, Brown was known for her work as a Homeless Liaison Officer in Westminster, where she emphasized the importance of making a positive impact on people’s lives.
