Jax Ulbrich Issues Apology for NFL Draft Prank Call to Shedeur Sanders
In an unexpected turn of events during the 2025 NFL draft, Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, admitted to prank-calling Shedeur Sanders, a newly drafted player for the Cleveland Browns.
On April 27, 21-year-old Jax took to Instagram to express regret for what he described as a “terrible mistake.” He wrote, “I made a tremendous mistake and messed with that moment,” acknowledging that Shedeur was in a pivotal moment of his career.
In his heartfelt message, Jax said, “What I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment. It was selfish and childish.” He thanked Shedeur for accepting his call and hoped for forgiveness.
The prank occurred on April 25, the second day of the draft, when Shedeur was anxiously waiting for news about his future in the NFL. In a now-viral video, Jax pretended to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, telling Shedeur, “We’re going to take you with our next pick, but you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer.” The prank confused Shedeur, who responded, “What does that mean?”
Reports indicate that Shedeur had been cautious about prank calls, having received a new phone to protect his number, which was shared only with league executives. Following the incident, the Falcons released a statement, clarifying that Jax had obtained Shedeur’s phone number from his father’s open iPad during a visit.
Jeff Ulbrich was reportedly unaware of the prank until after it happened. The Falcons also issued an apology to Shedeur and his family, emphasizing that they do not condone such behavior.
Despite the prank, Shedeur took the matter lightly, telling reporters that it did not affect him. He acknowledged that while the act was childish, “everybody does childish things here and there.”
