A person who was initially considered a “person of interest” in the shooting at Brown University has been let go. This means the real shooter is still out there.
Police Colonel Oscar Perez said that the person arrested early Sunday was released because they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him. He is no longer considered a suspect.
Now, police are looking again for the person seen in a video. This person was wearing all black and running near the school when the shooting happened.
The Attorney General didn’t say why the person was released. The Mayor said people shouldn’t be afraid.
When asked why they haven’t found other suspects, the Attorney General said there aren’t many cameras in the building where the shooting occurred.
He also mentioned that they’ve looked at all the videos from the campus, but none show the shooter’s face.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. on Saturday. A person with a mask and a gun went into a building at Brown University and started shooting.
The shooter then went into a classroom with about 60 students who were studying for a test.
People in the classroom said the shooter yelled something unclear and then started shooting.
Two students died, and nine were hurt. One of the injured students is in very bad condition.
Brown University has stopped all exams for the rest of the semester. They are telling students to go home for the winter break.
A school official, Francis J. Doyle III, said that everyone should focus on staying safe.
