Lizzo Opens Up About Legal Battles on Keke Palmer’s Podcast
On December 19, Lizzo shared her thoughts on the various lawsuits she is facing during an appearance on the podcast “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer.” The Grammy-winning artist expressed that she felt “blindsided” by a sexual harassment lawsuit brought against her by three former backup dancers.
In the interview, Lizzo, 36, explained that she needed time to think after what had been a successful year, which included her first arena tour alongside her dancers from “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.” She recalled that after the tour wrapped up, she was caught off guard when the lawsuit surfaced. “I was literally living in my dream, and then the tour ended, and three ex-dancers just completely blindsided me,” she said.
Reflecting on the hurt caused, Lizzo mentioned how she deeply valued these former dancers as part of her team. “These were people that I gave opportunities to,” she stated, expressing her surprise and disappointment upon learning about the allegations, which included claims of sexual harassment.
Lizzo characterized the allegations as shocking but called some of the claims “silly.” She said her regret was minimal, as she continues to learn and grow from the situation. “Let’s be clear, I did nothing wrong,” she asserted.
In August 2023, three dancers—Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez—filed a lawsuit against Lizzo, claiming sexual and racial harassment and a hostile work environment. The lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles County, included allegations that Lizzo pressured her dancers to engage with nude performers and there were claims of weight shaming as well.
Previously, Lizzo had publicly denied the allegations through Instagram. She stated that her work ethic and character were put into question, adding, “These are as unbelievable as they sound.”
Additionally, a month later, Lizzo found herself in another lawsuit from wardrobe stylist Asha Daniels, who alleged a toxic work environment despite Lizzo’s messages of body positivity. Lizzo has denied these new allegations as well, labeling them as “meritless.”
While Lizzo asserts that she has been dismissed from the Daniels lawsuit, her explanation regarding this point has been clarified by Daniels’ lawyer, who stated that the lawsuit is still active and has not been dropped. Lizzo stated on the podcast, “A judge saw this, and he looked at the evidence and said, ‘OK. We can’t allow this to go through.’”
As Lizzo navigates these challenges, she has been focusing on her physical and mental health. She recently indicated she would be stepping back from negative influences but emphasized that her love for making music and connecting with her fans remains strong.
“I want to inspire people to stand up for themselves,” she said, reinforcing her commitment to positivity and artistry amidst the difficulties she faces.
