2024 is set to bring some new changes, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the strong bond among the cast of Disney’s beloved animated film, Aladdin, which premiered 32 years ago. Linda Larkin, who has voiced Princess Jasmine since the beginning, recently shared her thoughts on the film’s legacy and her connection with her fellow cast members, including Scott Weinger, who voices Aladdin, and Jonathan Freeman, who plays Jafar.
During a recent interview on the Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Treasure ship, Larkin, now 54, expressed how she stays in touch with her co-stars. "I keep in touch with everybody," she said. "Just this past weekend, I was with Jonathan Freeman for three days at an event. We really try to work together as much as possible."
Larkin highlighted that while they frequently record their voices individually for Disney projects, they often get to reunite at live events. "We all do the current voices as well, but we rarely work in the studio together," she noted.
The original Aladdin cast, including the late Robin Williams as the Genie, has remained close over the decades. Larkin fondly recalls the friendships formed during the production of the film and the years that have followed. "We’ve been friends for 34 years," she shared. "It’s a legacy that is very unique to us."
Reflecting on her career, Larkin was honored to be named a Disney Legend in 2011, alongside other notable actresses who voiced Disney Princesses. She expressed heartfelt sentiments about how children today still connect with her character. "It’s something I didn’t know would happen all these years later," she said. "A new generation sees themselves in Jasmine, and I’m grateful for that."
As Aladdin continues to resonate with audiences, the film is available for streaming on Disney+. The Disney Treasure, which will embark on its maiden voyage soon, adds another layer to the vibrant world of Disney that fans continue to enjoy.
