As people remember Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, many believe his work helped President Donald Trump connect with younger voters in the recent election.
Anthony DeWitt, who used to work for TPUSA, said Kirk’s work to get regular people involved was very important. He believes it got young people excited to vote in 2024.
DeWitt explained that Kirk created a way for young people and those new to politics to have their voices heard. He said that getting young people to go door-to-door, collect votes, get signatures, sign up new voters, and attend meetings was key to winning the election.
Figures show that Trump won over 47% of voters aged 18-29.
In key states like Michigan and Arizona, Trump did very well with young voters. He won Michigan with 50% of the vote in that age group. While he lost Arizona, where TPUSA is based, he came close with 48%.
Overall, Trump won the election with 312 electoral votes.
This is a big change from 2020, when only 36% of young voters supported Trump.
Colin Reed, a Republican strategist, said that Kirk helped to bring more people into the Republican Party.
He noted that it used to be unlikely for a Republican candidate to do as well as Trump did with young voters. Reed believes that Kirk showed young people that conservative ideas can lead to success and happiness.
Those who knew Kirk well are already looking ahead. Some have called 2026 the “Charlie Kirk election” and expect Vice President JD Vance to be a leading figure in the years to come.
