House Conservatives Consider Action Against Federal Judge
A group of conservative lawmakers in the House of Representatives is exploring the possibility of impeaching a federal judge, James Boasberg.
Representative Brandon Gill from Texas introduced the idea, suggesting Judge Boasberg acted unfairly during a probe into President Trump and the 2020 election. Gill believes the judge showed bias when he approved requests related to the investigation, including looking at phone records of Republican members of Congress.
While some members of the House Freedom Caucus support the idea of impeachment, it’s not clear if there’s enough support to move forward. Representative Andy Harris, the chairman of the group, said that while there is support for the idea, the group is currently focused on financial matters before Congress.
Other conservative representatives have voiced their concerns about Judge Boasberg. Representative Chip Roy from Texas believes the judge made decisions based on assumptions without solid evidence. Representative Ralph Norman from South Carolina hopes this impeachment effort will be stronger than past attempts, saying there should be consequences for the judge’s actions.
Representative Eli Crane from Arizona said that he support the impeachment, because he thinks some judges have overstepped their boundaries and not followed their oaths.
However, some Republicans are urging caution. Representative Darrell Issa from California suggests holding hearings to fully understand the situation before considering impeachment. He believes it’s important to determine what “good behavior” means for judges and whether multiple judges may have violated those standards.
Issa mentioned he is thinking about holding a hearing on this matter after Congress comes back from the Thanksgiving break.
