An Iowa man will spend a long time in prison for the death of a teenage girl who disappeared from his farm.
James Bachmurski, who is 66 years old, was given a 50-year prison sentence. He was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 15-year-old Jade Colvin.
During the trial, the lawyers said that Bachmurski had told the police he would rather die than tell the truth about what happened.
Before the sentencing, Bachmurski’s lawyers asked for a new trial. They said that the evidence didn’t prove he was guilty. But the judge said no to their request.
Jade Colvin’s mother had brought her to live on Bachmurski’s farm in 2017. It’s not clear why she did this. Jade was last seen just two days after she arrived at the farm. Her body has never been found.
In court, Jade’s sister, Shalie Cinok, called Bachmurski a coward. She said he took advantage of a young, trusting girl. She added that when he couldn’t control her, he killed her.
She called him a “pathetic, worthless predator” and said she hoped prison would be as cruel to him as he was to Jade.
