College Basketball Sees a Shakeup in New Poll
The latest AP Top 25 poll shows significant changes as teams settle into the regular season. Houston takes the top spot, moving up from No. 2 and switching places with Purdue.
Houston received 18 first-place votes from the media panel, while Purdue earned 36. UConn, Duke, and Arizona round out the top five. Only four teams held their positions from the preseason poll, highlighting the early-season adjustments.
Houston’s rise to No. 1 marks their first time in that position since 2024. Purdue, after a close game against Oakland, saw some voters drop them from the top five.
Arizona jumped eight spots to No. 5 after a notable win, and Alabama moved up to No. 8. North Carolina also climbed, reflecting strong early performances.
Florida, St. John’s, and Kansas experienced significant drops in the rankings following losses.
The Southeastern Conference, Big Ten, and Big 12 dominate the poll, holding the majority of ranked teams. Indiana is also showing promise, with potential to enter the rankings soon.
