Videos have emerged showing a heated discussion between basketball star Kevin Durant and a fan during a recent game between the Houston Rockets and the Detroit Pistons on Friday.
The incident occurred while Durant was on the court. The videos show Durant apparently directing strong words toward a fan who was seated courtside. The fan was wearing a Brooklyn Nets jersey with Durant’s former number, 7. Durant played for the Nets before being traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2023 and eventually landing with the Rockets.
In the initial part of the exchange, Durant can be heard using harsh language toward the fan.
A staff member reportedly stepped in to try and calm the situation. However, Durant continued to engage with the fan briefly before walking away. A second video clip shows the exchange continuing while play was stopped for a referee review.
During the second clip, the fan appeared to have removed the Durant jersey he was initially wearing.
In addition to the courtside exchange, a microphone on the court seemed to pick up Durant using inappropriate language while shooting a free throw during the second quarter.
Despite the distractions, Durant led his team to victory with a team-high score of 32 points, helping the Rockets defeat the Pistons 111-104.
Following the game, Durant spoke about the increasing intensity of the season as teams prepare for the playoffs.
He noted that teams are starting to solidify their strategies and approaches as the All-Star break approaches. Durant added that he expects the games to become more physical as the season progresses.
The Rockets are scheduled to play their next game at home against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
