Deion Sanders Remains Absent from Boulder Football Camps
BOULDER, Colo. — Deion Sanders, head coach of the University of Colorado football team, has not been present at football camps this spring, prompting questions about his health. The university has refrained from offering specific details about his absence.
According to a report by ESPN, which cited an unnamed source, Sanders has been feeling unwell and has been away from his office in recent days. However, his son, Deion Sanders Jr., shared a livestream video over the weekend, reassuring fans that his father is currently at their home in Texas and “feeling well.” He mentioned that his father would share more about his health situation in due time.
Sanders, who recently signed a contract extension through 2029 that makes him the highest-paid football coach in the Big 12 Conference, is expected to conduct at least three on-campus football camps as part of the agreement.
The 57-year-old coach has faced health challenges since undergoing two toe amputations in 2021 due to blood clots. He missed media day earlier this year, right before his first season at Colorado, after having a procedure to remove a blood clot and another to straighten his toes.
During a recent minicamp, his son, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, focused on his own role with the Cleveland Browns, stating, “I’m here to be the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. I’m focused on learning this playbook.” He chose not to comment further about his father’s situation.
Additionally, Sanders was absent from a scheduled appearance as a keynote speaker at a Sickle Cell Disease symposium in Florida due to a last-minute scheduling conflict. Magic Johnson stepped in to replace him.
Colorado football is gearing up for its season opener against Georgia Tech on August 29.
