Border Patrol Involved in Shooting Near Arizona Border
A person was shot and is in critical condition after an incident involving a Border Patrol agent near the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona on Tuesday.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated that the FBI has requested they lead the investigation into the agent’s use of force. This is standard procedure when a federal agency is involved in a shooting within the county.
The FBI is looking into a possible attack on a federal officer near Arivaca, Arizona, which is about 10 miles from the border. Details about how the alleged attack connects to the shooting haven’t been released yet.
The Santa Rita Fire District responded to the shooting, and the wounded individual is now in custody. They were quickly taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
The area where the shooting occurred is known to be used by those attempting to cross the border illegally. Border Patrol agents regularly patrol the area to maintain law and order and secure our nation’s border.
