Buffalo, NY – NFL quarterback Josh Allen, celebrated for his outstanding performances, has signed a significant contract extension with the Buffalo Bills worth a staggering $330 million. This deal, which includes a record-setting $250 million in guaranteed money, places Allen among the highest-paid athletes in the league.
The Bills publicly announced this major agreement, with insiders revealing the specifics of the contract. Allen, now 28 years old, will remain with the team through the 2030 season thanks to this new deal, which adds two years to his existing contract.
Previously, the highest guarantee in NFL history was set by Cleveland’s DeShaun Watson, who signed a five-year contract in 2022 that featured $230 million in guarantees. While Allen’s new contract doesn’t surpass the total value of Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes’ massive 10-year, $450 million deal from 2020, it underscores Allen’s importance to the Bills franchise.
In comparison, Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott holds the record for the highest average salary per season, with $60 million following his four-year, $240 million contract extension last summer.
Allen’s new contract comes on the heels of a successful seventh season, where he became just the third player in Bills history to win the NFL MVP award, the first since running back Thurman Thomas in 1991. This new contract surpasses his previous six-year deal worth $258 million that he signed in 2021.
As one of the league’s elite quarterbacks, Allen has shattered numerous franchise records for passing and scoring. He has proven his doubters wrong since being drafted as the No. 7 pick in 2018, when many viewed him as a raw talent.
Allen has brought stability to a quarterback position that has seen a lot of changes since the retirement of Hall of Famer Jim Kelly in 1996. Under his leadership, the Bills have clinched five consecutive AFC East titles and have made the playoffs for six straight years.
His MVP season also showcased his ability to lead a team with less star power around him. The Bills clinched the AFC East division title early, finishing with a 13-4 record, despite the challenges of trading away top receiver Stefon Diggs. Although Allen didn’t surpass 4,000 passing yards this season, he had his most efficient year, throwing just six interceptions and accounting for 40 total touchdowns—28 passing and 12 rushing.
However, Allen is still looking for that elusive Super Bowl appearance, as the Bills have faced defeats in the AFC Championship games against Kansas City in both 2020 and last season.
On a personal note, Allen proposed to actress Hailee Steinfeld during the team’s bye week, highlighting a significant moment in his life. He has credited her with being a vital source of support for him throughout his career.
This new contract is not just a milestone for Allen; it’s also a strategic move for the Bills, allowing them to manage their salary cap and plan for future seasons. The team had been nearing the cap limit, especially after releasing veteran player Von Miller.
As the Bills continue to build a strong core, Allen’s record-breaking deal illustrates their commitment to their star quarterback and the aspirations they have for the upcoming seasons.
