Aubrey Anderson-Emmons Releases Debut EP Under New Name
Former Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons is stepping into a new chapter of her life. Now 18 years old, she has released her first EP titled Drown, but she’s doing so under her new name, Frances Anderson. This change reflects her journey of self-discovery and authenticity.
After Modern Family concluded in 2020, a young Anderson-Emmons faced uncertainty about her future, especially when the pandemic hit shortly after. However, during this time, she taught herself to play the guitar, igniting her passion for songwriting and music.
The five-track EP, which debuted on August 8, marks a significant milestone for Anderson, symbolizing her growth and coming of age. She shared that dropping her middle name, which she previously disliked, is part of embracing her full identity. “It’s about accepting parts of me that I didn’t like as a kid,” she said.
In her new songs, Anderson reflects on personal experiences, including graduating high school early and ending a long-term relationship. She emphasized the importance of being truthful about who she really is, rather than just the character she portrayed on television.
Returning to life after the pandemic brought its own challenges, and Anderson found herself navigating auditions while prioritizing her education. Despite her accomplishments, she admitted that her childhood role as Lily Tucker-Pritchett shaped her identity in some ways, posing challenges during her high school years.
Music has always been close to her heart. She fondly recalls her parents introducing her to classic artists like The Beatles and Michael Jackson, despite initially disliking piano lessons at a young age. While she still dreams of acting—particularly on Broadway—her current focus is on music and her personal growth.
Going forward, Anderson has plans for furthering her education in musical theater and considering college, although she hasn’t auditioned yet. For now, she is enjoying making music, exploring new hobbies like horseback riding and hiking, and dreams of one day touring and sharing her music with the world.
Drown is now available for listening, and Anderson hopes her music brings joy to her fans.
