An Amazon delivery driver in California has been accused of two separate incidents of sexual assault, one involving a minor and another involving an adult woman. Officials are now urging anyone else who may have been affected to come forward.
Fernando Barreto-Hernandez was arrested on January 24 after police claimed he assaulted a minor while delivering packages in Los Angeles back in December 2024, according to a statement from the Glendale Police Department.
During a court appearance on February 21, Barreto-Hernandez faced new accusations related to an alleged sexual assault on January 21 in Glendale, where a woman reported being assaulted by him while he was on duty.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has since filed a mix of felony and misdemeanor charges against Barreto-Hernandez for both cases. Charges include lewd acts involving a child under 14 and unwanted touching for sexual arousal, as reported by local news outlets.
Barreto-Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Currently, he is out on bail and has a history of working for Amazon, Amazon Flex, and FedEx, as indicated by police.
The Glendale Police Department is actively seeking information from any additional potential victims. Those who believe they may have been targeted are encouraged to contact the department’s Assaults Unit.
In a statement regarding the situation, an Amazon spokesperson clarified that their delivery drivers are not direct employees of Amazon, but rather work for independent delivery service providers.
As the case unfolds, authorities are focused on ensuring that all victims feel safe coming forward to share their experiences.
