Brave Young Girl Saves Family from Violent Father
In a heroic act, a 10-year-old girl in Oregon managed to protect her mother and siblings after her father turned violent and threatened their lives.
On June 7, 2021, Jesus Huchin-Interian got into a heated argument with the mother of his children, accusing her of infidelity. As tensions escalated, he threatened to kill her and their children, stating he would "finish her" and then "finish the kids."
During the confrontation, Huchin-Interian physically attacked her and ended up inflicting a serious injury by slashing her throat. In a moment of bravery, the young girl grabbed a knife and attempted to stab her father to stop the attack. However, the knife was too dull to cause any real harm. Quickly thinking on her feet, she then led her siblings to safety by barricading them in her bedroom.
Once safe, she dialed 911 to report the situation. After her father fled, she bravely emerged from hiding to provide aid to her mother. When the police from the Gresham Police Department arrived, they found the mother seriously injured but alive and rushed her to the hospital.
Huchin-Interian attempted to flee the state but was located in San Francisco three years later, in March 2024. He has since pleaded guilty to second-degree assault involving domestic violence. As part of a plea deal, he is set to serve 70 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Prosecutors emphasized the young girl’s courage, highlighting how her actions prevented what could have been a tragic situation. “This case shows the devastating effects of domestic violence on families,” said Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Robin Beck Skarstad.
The names of the victim and her children have not been released to protect their privacy. Huchin-Interian’s formal sentencing is scheduled for April 28.
