Police in Kenner, Louisiana, have arrested a woman suspected of using the credit card of a Super Bowl reporter who was found dead in a hotel room. Authorities describe the suspect, Danette Colbert, as a “career criminal” with a background of drug-related allegations.
During a press conference on February 7, Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley revealed that the credit card and cell phone belonging to Adan Manzano, a reporter for Telemundo Kansas City, were discovered at Colbert’s residence.
Currently, Colbert faces charges of fraud and theft, but the investigation remains open. It is unclear if she has hired a lawyer or submitted a plea, as the police chief indicated that charges might escalate.
Colbert was previously unknown to Kenner police, but connections have been made to investigators in New Orleans. Chief Conley mentioned that she has often been seen in the French Quarter and has a reputation for engaging in fraudulent activities.
Colbert has faced past arrests for drugging men and stealing their items, including credit and debit cards. Chief Conley highlighted two instances where she was charged with drugging individuals, one in Nevada in 2022 and another in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, though he did not provide specifics on those cases.
Conley stated, “She plays a confidence game; she’s definitely a career criminal.” Meanwhile, the cause of Manzano’s death has not yet been determined.
On the morning of February 5, police say hotel security footage captured Colbert and Manzano entering his room around 4:30 a.m. However, after that, Manzano was not seen again on camera.
Colbert was later identified as a suspect, leading to a search warrant being executed at her home. She was arrested Thursday night in New Orleans and remains in custody. Authorities reported finding drugs and a stolen gun at her residence, although the firearm is not believed to be linked to Manzano’s case.
Manzano was in Louisiana to cover Super Bowl LIX for Telemundo KC. His employer described him as a dedicated journalist and rising star in their statement, expressing deep sorrow over his loss and acknowledging his significant contributions to the local community.
