A woman from South Carolina has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to a fatal crash that occurred on a bride’s wedding day in April 2023. Jamie Lee Komoroski, aged 26, entered her plea on Monday, admitting to charges that include driving under the influence (DUI) resulting in death, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury, and reckless homicide.
Following her guilty plea, Komoroski received a sentence of 25 years in prison. Reports indicate that she was driving her vehicle at 65 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone when she collided with a golf cart carrying newlyweds Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson. Tragically, Miller, who was 34 years old, died at the scene due to severe injuries. Hutchinson survived but suffered significant injuries, including multiple broken bones and a brain injury.
Komoroski was found to be three times over the legal alcohol limit at the time of the accident. She refused to undergo sobriety and breath tests after the crash. During court proceedings, she mentioned that she has started attending Alcoholics Anonymous while in jail.
Miller’s family received a settlement of $1.3 million as a result of the incident. In a powerful statement in court, Miller’s mother expressed her deep sorrow, saying, “She didn’t just kill my child; she killed all of us.”
On the day of the crash, Komoroski had been under significant influence and was noted for her reckless speeding. The judge, Circuit Judge Michael Nettles, described the situation as very tragic for everyone involved. Miller’s mother continued to voice her heartbreak in court, emphasizing that the pain from the loss would last a lifetime.
