A woman recently survived an alligator attack while swimming in Florida. According to officials, the incident occurred in the South Fork area of the Saint Lucie River.
The victim, a 27-year-old woman whose name has not been released, was with her boyfriend and their dog when the attack happened. While they were in waist-deep water, an alligator bit her hand and wrist, pulling her underwater for a short time. Fortunately, the alligator released her, and her boyfriend quickly took her to the nearby boat ramp at Charlie Leighton Park.
Emergency responders transported the woman to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce as a safety measure. Thankfully, her boyfriend and their dog were unharmed.
Martin County Fire Rescue crews arrived shortly after 7:51 PM and treated her for serious injuries on the scene. Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are also investigating the situation and are working to find the alligator involved in the attack. It’s currently unclear if the alligator has been captured.
