A woman in the U.K. has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of murdering her husband in 2022, a crime she initially tried to pass off as a suicide.
29-year-old Kyle Pugh was killed in a violent incident at their home in Newport on March 22, 2022. His wife, 34-year-old Amy Pugh, attacked him during an argument, which led to serious injuries that ultimately caused his death, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
Amy was convicted in June and received her sentence on September 4. She must serve a minimum of 13 years and 77 days behind bars before she is eligible for parole.
During the altercation, Amy choked Kyle after he hit her back. Following the assault, she waited 20 minutes to call for help. When emergency services arrived, she was seen attempting to give him CPR, insisting that he had hanged himself with a belt.
In an emergency call, she was heard saying, “Kyle, wake up, why have you done this?” Later, as police arrived, she expressed concern about whether her husband had a pulse, suggesting there was still a chance he could survive.
Kyle succumbed to his injuries in the hospital the next day.
Amy was arrested in April 2022 and formally charged later that November. The presiding judge noted that she had fabricated a story and tried to manipulate the situation.
Emily Clewer from the CPS mentioned that Amy’s actions took Kyle away from his family forever, adding that while no sentence could bring him back, it is hoped that justice has been served.
