The White House is preparing for a special celebration of Holy Week, with President Donald Trump taking part in events to honor Easter properly. Jennifer Korn, director of the newly established White House Faith Office, stated that they are excited to celebrate this important occasion.
Throughout Holy Week, the White House will issue a proclamation, along with a video message from President Trump, and will host a pre-Easter dinner, followed by an Easter service for staff at the White House. Korn emphasized that this week will be dedicated to prayer and worship, aimed at connecting with Americans observing the week leading up to Easter Sunday.
On Palm Sunday, President Trump is expected to deliver an Easter proclamation that addresses Christians directly and reinforces his commitment to uphold Christian values in various spheres, including schools and the military.
The activities will continue on Monday with the release of a Holy Week video and a dinner planned for Wednesday evening, featuring hymns performed by the Marine Corps Band, Christian opera artist Charles Billingsley, and remarks from the President himself. Alongside the President, Christian leaders and pastors will be present at the dinner, along with various members of the White House staff.
On Holy Thursday, there will be a staff worship service, where notable faith leaders, including Rev. Franklin Graham, will participate in prayer and communion, with music offered by a group from Liberty University.
Leavitt, the White House press secretary, praised the establishment of the White House Faith Office, highlighting it as a significant accomplishment for Trump and contrasting it with the previous administration’s approach. Last year, President Joe Biden’s administration faced criticism for proclaiming Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter Sunday, which many saw as an affront to the significance of the day for Christians.
In light of this, Leavitt underscored the contrast between the current administration’s celebrations and past approaches, aiming to reaffirm the importance of the Christian faith in public life. The upcoming events at the White House aim to bring attention to the significance of Easter and the values it represents.
This year, President Trump is committed to ensuring that Easter is celebrated with the dignity it deserves, reflecting the views of countless Americans who prioritize this sacred time.
