Newlyweds’ Special Day Marred by Thief
In a shocking twist, George and Nadeen Farahat’s wedding in Glendale, California, has taken a turn for the worse. The couple celebrated their union at a church and then held a grand reception at the Renaissance Banquet. Unfortunately, while they were enjoying their first moments as a married couple, a thief crashed the celebration.
Security footage revealed a man in a suit casually taking a box filled with gifts and cash valued between $80,000 and $100,000, which had been generously given by their family and friends. The thief, appearing nonchalant, made his escape shortly after the heist.
Nadeen recounted the moment to ABC 7, saying, “As soon as we found out what happened, the music shut down and everything stopped. I ended up sitting on the dance floor, sobbing with my friends and cousins around me.”
The man had blended in well among the guests, attending the reception for nearly an hour and a half, even using the restroom and ordering a drink. Nadeen expressed her fear upon realizing a stranger had infiltrated such an intimate event.
Groom George estimated the financial loss and described the day as “wonderful” until the incident unfolded. He explained, “In our culture, most gifts are cash or checks, so we had a box filled with envelopes from our loved ones.”
The video showed the thief making his way to a back alley with the box, where a getaway vehicle was parked waiting for him. To help catch this criminal, the couple is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
Despite the unfortunate incident, George and Nadeen are attempting to stay positive. “We try to focus on the good things of the day,” George shared. “We had a lovely ceremony and a fun party with family and friends.” Nadeen echoed this sentiment, suggesting that rain on a wedding day symbolizes good fortune. “We’re just really thankful,” she said.
The Glendale Police Department is currently investigating the case.
