A tragic bombing at a wedding celebration in northwest Pakistan has left at least seven dead and many injured, according to local police reports. The attack happened in Dera Ismail Khan, a district within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Reports indicate a suicide bomber targeted the home of Noor Alam Mehsud, a local leader who has supported the government. The bomber struck while wedding guests were celebrating.
While no group has yet claimed responsibility, suspicion naturally turns to the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). This group has been responsible for numerous attacks in Pakistan. Concerns have grown in the region since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, creating a haven for TTP leaders and fighters. The withdrawal of American and NATO forces from Afghanistan has created a power vacuum, that has been filled by terrorists groups. This has made it difficult to counter the threat of terrorism in the region.
