One of the suspects in a tragic shooting at a Walmart in Lumberton, North Carolina, has surrendered to the police, while the other remains at large.
Brian Campbell, 18, turned himself in to authorities on December 23 after a shooting that resulted in the death of 42-year-old Brandy Nicole Olson. Both Campbell and the other suspect, 17-year-old Ezekiel Burden, are from the Lumberton area.
An official from the Lumberton Police Department announced that Campbell was arrested and is currently being held in the Robeson County Detention Center, with his bond set at $1 million.
Burden is facing serious charges, including first-degree murder and firing a weapon in a manner that causes fear. Campbell has been charged as an accessory to the crime.
The incident took place on December 20 at the Walmart Supercenter, with emergency services being notified around 3:45 p.m. Police have indicated that this appears to be an isolated case where the suspects were targeting two individuals they knew, who were near the Woodforest Bank inside the store.
When officers arrived, they found Olson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from bystanders to help her, she later passed away after being taken to UNC Health Southeastern.
Importantly, authorities have clarified that Olson was not the intended target of the shooting.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ezekiel Burden is encouraged to reach out to the Lumberton Police Department.
