Walmart Issues Recall for Water Bottles Due to Safety Hazards
Walmart has announced a recall of approximately 850,000 stainless steel water bottles due to safety concerns. The issue arises from the lid of the “Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles,” which can unexpectedly detach and strike users, resulting in serious injuries, including permanent vision loss for two individuals.
This recall affects bottles sold in Walmart stores nationwide since 2017. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has classified these bottles as posing “serious impact and laceration hazards.” The danger primarily occurs when users attempt to open the bottles that contain carbonated drinks or perishable juices after extended storage, causing the lids to eject violently.
As of the latest reports, Walmart has received three incident reports from customers injured by the lids, with two cases leading to permanent eye damage.
Walmart is urging customers to stop using the recalled bottles immediately and offers a full refund. Customers can either contact Walmart directly or return the bottles to their local store for compensation.
The water bottles in question can be identified by a model number, 83-662, which is not printed on the bottle itself but can be found on the packaging. The stainless-steel base is silver and features a one-piece black screw cap, along with an embedded Ozark Trail logo.
In a statement, Walmart emphasized its commitment to customer safety and noted that it has been working closely with the CPSC and the product manufacturer to address this issue.
